Ecuador March 2025: GWM (+30.4%) defies market off -32.9%
GWM is the third best-selling brand in Ecuador in March, helped by the Poer pickup.
The Ecuadorian new car market collapses -32.9% year-on-year in March to just 9,055 units, keeping in mind March 2024 was artificially boosted by pulled forward sales before the introduction of a new 15% tax. The Q1 volume stands at 25,632, off -19.8% year-on-year and the weakest Q1 result since 2020 (24,830). Kia (-23.5%) brilliantly repeats at #1 with 17.4% share, consolidating its YTD domination at 16.5% of the market. Leader for the past 30 years, Chevrolet (-44.1%) is relegated to 2nd place with 15.6% share and 15.3% so far this year. GWM (+30.4%) defies the crumbling market and advances three spots on last month to land on the podium’s third step. It overtakes Hyundai (-26.2%), Toyota (-46.8%) and Chery (-26%). BYD (+70.5%), Mitsubishi (+45%), Sinotruk (+14.7%) Dongfeng (+10.3%) shine below.
Model-wise, the Kia Soluto threepeats at #1 while the Chevrolet D-Max rallies back up one spot on February to #2. It however lags significantly behind the Soluto year-to-date at 5.5% share vs. 7.2%. The GWM Poer is up to #3 ahead of the Kia Sonet and Chevrolet Groove. Notice also the GWM Wingle at #9.
