Netherlands March 2025: Kia EV3 threepeats at #1, Tesla off -61.2%

The Kia EV3 is the most popular vehicle in the Netherlands for the third month running.

New car sales in the Netherlands fall a steep -14.8% year-on-year in March to 31,515 units, leading to a year-to-date volume off -9.8% to 91,766. Over Q1, BEV sales go against the negative environment and gain 7.9% year-on-year to 32,439 units and 35.3% share vs. 29.5% a year ago in March 2024. Hybrids hold 46.8% share with 42,931 sales and petrol is at 16.5% with 15,157 registrations.

Kia (-4.9%) remains the dominant force with 9.1% share, albeit well below its YTD level of 11.4%. Toyota (-40.2%) freefalls but still manages to end the month in 2nd place with 7.6% share vs. 6.7% so far this year. Below, BMW (+11.3%), Renault (+33.8%) and Volkswagen (+29.9%) all return stellar scores to round out the Top 5. Volkswagen even ranks #2 year-to-date vs. #5 over the Full Year 2024. Tesla (-61.2%) and Volvo (-57.4%) are battered at #6 and #7 respectively. Cupra (+97.8%), Citroen (+89.4%) and Mini (+69.8%) stand out further down the charts.

The new Kia EV3 continues to easily top the models charts, threepeating at #1 with 3.2% share. Unattainable last year, the Tesla Model 3 (-47.5%) and Model Y (-69.2%) implode but still both manage a podium finish. The Citroen C3 (+271%) is boosted by its BEV variant to #4 and ranks #9 year-to-date vs. #60 over the Full Year 2024. The Skoda Kodiaq (+330.8%), BMW iX1 (+135%) and Ford Kuga (+42.6%) all impress in the remainder of the Top 10.
