India February 2025: Maruti Suzuki Fronx storms into top spot, Mahindra up to record #2

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is the best-selling vehicle in India for the first time.

Wholesales in India edge up 2.3% year-on-year this month which is enough for a new February record at 380,691. The year-to-date tally after two months is up 2.2% to an all time high 782,229. Maruti Suzuki (+0.3%) is stable to 42.2% share but the event of the month is below: Mahindra (+18.9%) is up one spot on last month to #2, a new record ranking for the brand. It overtakes Hyundai (-4.9%) for the first time although Hyundai remains #2 year-to-date. Tata (-9.4%) has lost its shine and is stuck at #4. Excellent performances by Kia (+23.9%) and Toyota (+13.4%) below. Skoda (+147.7%) is the most dynamic carmaker in the charts, reaching its largest monthly volume since June 2022. It’s a month to forget for Renault (-34.4%) and Citroen (-36.3%).

The new XEV 9e helps Mahindra reach a record 2nd place at home.

Over in the models charts, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx (+51.5%) storms into pole position for the first time, smashing its monthly volume record from 16,419 last October to 21,461 this month. The Fronx now ranks #2 year-to-date vs. #11 over the Full Year 2024. It is followed by the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (+2.4%), #1 year-to-date, and the Hyundai Creta (+6.8%) staying at #3. Maruti Suzuki holds the next three spots with the Swift (+23.6%), Baleno (-11.6%) and Vitara Brezza (-2.4%). Notice also the Mahindra Thar up 59.1% to a new record volume. As for recent launches, the Kia Syros is up one spot to #24, the Skoda Kylaq is up 23 to #32, the Mahindra XEV 9e up 15 to #41 and the Mahindra Mahindra BE 6 up 3 to #57.
