China imports February 2025: Lexus RX (+73.1%), BMW 2 Series (+69.3%) highlight stable market
Excellent month for the imported BMW 2 Series in China.
New car imports in China edge down -1.6% year-on-year in February to just 32,440 units. This is a poor result given February 2024 was already off -40.6% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally is down -21.4% to 85,282. After traditionally falling to #2 in January, Lexus (+25.8%) defines the negative market and easily reclaims the top spot off Mercedes (-5.5%), selling almost double the German brand’s volume. BMW (+1.7%) and Land Rover (+10.7%) are also solid and camp on their January ranking at #3 and #4 respectively. The reminder of the Top 10 is in serious trouble with double-digit falls. Mini (-38.4%), Porsche (-33.6%) Volkswagen (-31.4%) and Audi (-31.4%) are hit the hardest with Toyota (-18.5%) and Volvo (-13.2%) also sinking. In contrast Subaru (+59%) shines below.
Model-wise, the Lexus ES (+16.1%) continues to dominate head and shoulders, selling over three times the #2, the Lexus RX (+73.1%) even though it is in outstanding shape. The Mercedes GLE (-9.4%) falls one spot to #3 ahead of the Lexus NX (+44.3%) up seven spots on last month to #4 and the BMW 2 Series (+69.3%) up 20 ranks to #5. The Range Rover (+66.3%) also makes itself noticed with a strong year-on-year lift but falls three spots on January to #7.
