Spain January 2025: Dacia Sandero, Hyundai Tucson and MG ZS dominate in solid market

The MG ZS is equal #2 in Spain in January.

The Spanish new car market is up 5.3% year-on-year in January to 72,322 units. Sales of BEV and PHEV vehicles soar 28.9% to 10,254, holding 14.2% of the market vs. 11.6% a year ago. Private sales advance 12.3% to 38,219, company sales edge up 2.1% to 27,979 but sales to rental car companies drop -15.4% to 6,124. Looking at regions, Comunidad Valenciana surges 70.9% to 9,472 as flooded cars get replaced, and Asturias soars 26.1% to 1,087. Madrid recedes -4.1% to 27,972.

In the brands charts, Toyota (-1.2%) remains far above at 10.4% share vs. 9.4% over the Full Year 2024. Kia (+5.7%) is up five spots on December to #2 just as Renault (+61.9%) rallies back up to #3 vs. #5 over FY2024. Dacia (+23.7%) posts its best performance since last August at #4 and 6.5% share. Hyundai (+6.9%) falls three spots on last month to #5 but still beats the market. Mercedes (+15%) and Volkswagen (+11.6%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 but Seat (-27.7%) implodes at #8. Nissan (+55.3%), Ford (+50.1%) and MG (+36.3%) also make themselves noticed. Note also BYD (+733.6%) at #19 for its first ever Top 20 finish and Omoda (+3572%) at a record #21. 

Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+21.2%) easily reclaims the pole position with 3.7% of the market, distancing the Hyundai Tucson (+40.8%) and MG ZS (+29.3%) also posting fantastic results. The Toyota Corolla (-19%) was #2 a year ago and drops to #4 his month. The Toyota C-HR (+41%), #1 in December, falls to #5 but still registers a splendid year-on-year lift. Impressive showings also for the Renault Captur (+130.6%), Nissan Qashqai (+26.5%) and Kia Sportage (+12.2%) in the remainder of the Top 10. The Ibiza (-2.3%) is the best-selling Seat at a lowly #9 vs. #3 over the Full Year 2024.
