Netherlands January 2025: Kia EV3 storms into pole position

The Kia EV3 is an instant blockbuster in the Netherlands.

The Dutch new car market is off -4.6% year-on-year in January to 32,804 units. Hybrid sales (incl. PHEV) amount to 14,934 or 45.5% share, BEVs are at 34% with 11,157 units, petrol is at 19.5% with 6,388 and diesel at 0.8% with 270. Kia (+97.2%) stuns but almost doubling its year-ago result to 12.5% share, its highest since last July. Volkswagen (+11.6%) is also strong in 2nd place, but Volvo (-7.7%) is weak at #3. Ford (+71.3%), Peugeot (+20.2%) and BMW (+2.9%) are the only remaining Top 10 brands in positive, with Skoda (-42.6%), Toyota (-37.6%) and Hyundai (-31.7%) hit the hardest. Audi (-2.1%) resists. Further down, notice Lexus (+151.4%), Porsche (+80.9%) and Cupra (+77.6%) all posting fantastic gains.

Over in the models charts, after appearing in the Dutch charts for the first time in October, the new Kia EV3 storms into pole position this month, selling over double the amount of any other car in the market with 5.4% share. It is an instant blockbuster in the Netherlands and the very first time the EV3 tops the charts of any market in the world. The Kia Picanto (+53%) and Peugeot 208 (+89.5%) follow while the Volvo EX30 (+616.8%), launched at the same time last year, holds the 4th place. Below a weak VW Polo (-5.8%), the next four models all beat the market with splendid upticks: the Skoda Kodiaq (+192.1%) is the best performer ahead of the Suzuki Swift (+103%), Kia Niro (+68.6%) and Opel Corsa (+50.8%).
