Mexico January 2025: Market at highest in 8 years

The Nissan Versa holds 7% of the Mexican market in January.

Mexican new car sales advance 5.9% year-on-year in January to 119,811 units, the best January result in 8 years: since the 123,269 registrations of January 2017. Brand leaders Nissan (+1.5%) and Chevrolet (+1%) can only muster modest lifts but easily remain on top. Volkswagen (+13.5%) and Toyota (+18.5%) fare much better below while Kia (+4.9%) rounds out the Top 5, not quite able to match the market growth. Mazda (+23.6%) is the only remaining Top 10 member to beat the market, with Hyundai (+5.7%) in positive but Ford (-2.4%), Honda (-0.7%) and MG (-0.2%) losing ground. Below, notice GWM (+78.9%), Ram (+53.1%), Peugeot (+33.2%) and Mitsubishi (+22.8%) all in great shape. We welcome Deepal in the charts at #49.

Over in the models charts, the Nissan Versa (+27.5%) sails off into the distance with 7% share vs. 6.2% over the Full Year 2024. This is the nameplate’s strongest share since last March. The Chevrolet Aveo (+13.3%) repeats at #2 with 3.9% of the market, distancing the Nissan NP300 (-16.7%) in difficulty. The Kia K3 (-2%) edges down but stays at #4 while the VW Virtus (+41.9%) ensures the Top 5 is identical to December’s. The Toyota RAV4 (+27.4%) ranks #9 vs. #26 over the Full Year 2024, with the Mazda CX-30 (+25%) and Nissan Kicks (+17.3%) also making themselves noticed. The MG 3 tops recent launches at #21 ahead of the Chevrolet S10 (#24) and Kia K4 (#27).
