Chile January 2025: Mitsubishi L200 ultra dominant, sales up
The Mitsubishi L200 is by far the most popular vehicle in Chile in January.
The Chilean new light vehicle market confirms it is on the mend, securing a 6th year-on-year lift in the past 7 months. January sales are indeed up 2.9% to 25,834 units. We are however still way off the 2022 level of 37,281. This month Suzuki (+36%) takes off to sport its first monthly win since last May. It is followed by Kia (+21.6%) also in outstanding shape and up from #7 in December. Toyota (-24.1%), leader both over the Full Year 2024 and last month, tumbles down to #3. Changan (+36.1%), Ford (+13.2%), Mitsubishi (+10.4%) and GWM (+9%) all post market-beating gains in the remainder of the Top 10. As a whole, Chinese carmakers are up 4.8% to 7,246 sales and 28% share vs. 30% over the Full Year 2024.
Model-wise, the Mitsubishi L200 (+29.6%) is head and shoulders above the competition at 4.1% share, scoring its first win since last October and 4th over the past 12 months. The GWM Poer (+19.5%) also impresses at #2, both models outselling last year’s leader the Toyota Hilux (-32.2%). The Ford Ranger (+60.6%) ensures the Top 4 is entirely composed of pickup trucks, as is usually the case in Chile. The Suzuki Baleno (+21.8%) is the best of the rest ahead of the Kia Soluto (+26.6%) and Chevrolet Groove (+3.7%). The GWM Jolion (+53.1%) lodges another excellent result at #9 after ranking #8 last month.
