Uruguay Full Year 2024: Chevrolet and Fiat Strada hang onto lead, BYD up 270.2%

New light vehicle sales in Uruguay advance by a solid 8.5% year-on-year in 2024 to 63,311 units. This is a new annual volume record, eclipsing the previous best of 58,367 established just last year. Chevrolet (-5%) threepeats as the #1 brand but sees its market share drop significantly from 18.1% to 15.9%. In contrast Fiat (+28.1%) gains two percentage points of share from 10.9% to 12.9%. Volkswagen (+7.4%) and Renault (+5.2%) are just below the market rate whereas Hyundai (+27.9%) and most impressively BYD (+270.2%) surge ahead. Suzuki (-40.5%) falters to #7 vs. #3 over the Full Year 2023. Notice also Geely (+96.5%) up to #17 and Omoda up to #24.

The models Top 4 is unchanged on last year, with the Fiat Strada (+10.8%) in the lead, followed by the Chevrolet Onix (+4.3%), Chevrolet Montana (+14.6%) and Hyundai HB20 (+9.7%). The Renault Kwid (+15.4%) climbs three spots on last year to #5 overall, distancing the VW Saveiro (-9.1%) The BYD Seagull and Fiat Mobi make their entrance inside the Top 10.
