Turkish buyers continue to rush to purchase a vehicle in a high inflation context, hoping it will rise in value over time. Indeed Turkiye new light vehicle sales reach another annual record in 2024 at 1,238,509 units, (+0.5%) only the second time in history the annual volume is above 1 million. This is due to a record December (170,149 sales, +7.3%, highest ever monthly tally) as the market was still in negative at end November. Monthly records were reached in January to March, August, November and December.

Fiat (-28.3%) remains the most popular carmaker in the country despite a daunting year-on-year freefall. It sees its share come down from 15.7% to 11.2%, and is now teases by Renault (-1.5%) at 10.8%. Fiat was outsold in May, September, October when it fell to #4 and December. Ford (+2.5%) and Volkswagen (+9.2%) are both solid below just as Peugeot (-6.5%) rounds out a Top 5 unchanged on 2023. Hyundai (+7.1%) leapfrogs past Opel (-15.4%), Citroen (-3%) and Toyota (+3.2%). Chery (+40.5%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10, peaked at #4 in June and ranked inside the Top 5 for four consecutive months. Local EV maker Togg (+53.7%) is up to #14 with over 30,000 sales, sliding into the Top 10 in April and May. All this with just one model. Up 893% to #26, BYD peaked at #11 in December.

Model-wise, the Fiat Egea Sedan (-27%) lodges a 9th consecutive annual win, a series it started in 2016, but freefalls to 6% share vs. 8.3% a year ago. The Renault Clio (-13.1%) is also in difficulty at 5.2% share but took the reins of the market five times vs. seven for the Egea Sedan. These two nameplates are the only ones managing at least one win this year. The Renault Megane Sedan (+14.9%) and Toyota Corolla Sedan and Estate (+4.4%) improve to #3 and #4 respectively. The Tiggo T10X (+53.7%) jumps to an outstanding 5th place overall and even peaked at #2 in April and May and secured five podium finishes.
