161,404 new light vehicles hit Iraqi roads in 2024, an impressive +28.8% year-on-year improvement. Keep in mind 2023 figures didn’t include Nissan and only had incomplete Jetour sales. Toyota (+36%) beats the market to improve its share to 29.3% vs. 27.7% last year. Reversely Kia (+12.7%) trails behind at 23.5% vs. 26.7%. Hyundai (+36.1%) also posts a great result to 12.5% of the market, distancing MG (+0.8%) which seems to have plateaued. Suzuki (+120.8%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to reach the 5th place. A surging newcomer is at #6: Jetour with an outstanding 3.8% share. Below, Geely (+74.2%), Jeep (+43.2%) and Great Wall (+36.1%) excel.
Model-wise, we have a momentum change in pole position: the Toyota Hilux (+49.1%) soars to pole position, ending at least 10 consecutive years of domination by the Kia Frontier (-1.3%). Indeed the Frontier had been the best-selling nameplate ever since 2014 which is the oldest year we have Iraqi data for. The Hyundai Tucson (+34.8%) stays at #3 ahead of the Kia Sorento (+43.5%). Weak scores for the Toyota Corolla (+0.1%), Toyota Land Cruiser (+15.9%) and Kia Sportage (+3.1%) while the MG 5 (-19.6%) actually loses ground. The Great Wall Wingle (+44.2%) cracks the Top 10. The Jetour Dashing lands at #13, the MG 3 at #15 and the Jetour T2 at #23.
