Norway October 2024: First win for the Toyota bZ4X, Ford Explorer in Top 10

The Toyota bZ4X is the best-selling vehicle in Norway for the first time.

New car sales in Norway advance a splendid +29.4% year-on-year in October to 11,552 units, but keep in mind October 2023 was off -28.9% on the year prior. Year-to-date volumes are down -1% to 103,350. After breaking their all time share record twice in the past two months, lifting it to 96.4%, BEVs account for 94% of new car sales in Norway in October thanks to sales up 44.5% to 10,862 and vs. 84.2% in October 2023. Year-to-date BEV sales are up 5.3% to 91,801 and 88.8% share. Diesel stays at 2.2% share, hybrids fall from 5.5% of the market a year ago to just 1.7% now, PHEVs fare even worse, going from 7% to 1.5% share and petrol cars are down to 0.6% share vs. 1% in October 2023. 4×4 account for 71.6% of the market vs. 66.8% a year ago.

Volkswagen (+152.3%) surges ahead to take the lead of the brands charts for the 2nd time in the past 4 months with 13.1% of the market vs. 10.5% year-to-date. Tesla (+98.8%) also posts a very impressive result even though it falls to #2 for the month at 11.7% share vs. 18.4% YTD. Toyota (-10.2%) struggles at #3 but Skoda (+30.6%) and Nissan (+35.2%) manage to beat the market. Volvo (-1.2%) underperforms at #5. Audi (+107.6%), Ford (+58.8%) and Nissan (+35.2%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. There are a lot of stellar performaners below, including NIO (+275.5%), Xpeng (+206.3%), Porsche (+200%), Peugeot (+140.7%) and Polestar (+104.8%).

Model-wise, the Toyota bZ4X (+37.6%) signs its first ever win with 6.6% share. Just four units below is the Skoda Enyaq (+42%), however the Enyaq would take the lead when adding the Coupe variant. The Tesla Model 3 (+2576.9%) ranks #3 ahead of the Tesla Model Y (-0.5%). The Model Y remains by far the most popular vehicle in Norway over the first 10 months of the year. The Nissan Ariya (+129.3%) is up two spots on last month to #5 just as the VW ID.4 (+124.5%) stays at #6. The new Ford Explorer breaks into the Top 10 for the first time at #7 as does the VW ID.7 at #8. The Porsche Macan surges to #13.
