Mexico October 2024: Hyundai Creta and MG 3 at all-time best

The MG 3 breaks into the Mexican Top 10 for the first time.

The Mexican new light vehicle market is up by a robust 7% year-on-year in October to 122,051 units. This is the largest October volume in 7 years: since the 124,353 units of October 2017. The year-to-date tally is now up 10.2% to 1,201,463, here too the highest tally after 10 months since 2017 (1,230,366). Nissan (+9.7%) outpaces the market to an improved 17.2% share whereas its archenemy Chevrolet (-1.9%) recedes slightly year-on-year to 12.4% share vs. 13.1% year-to-date. Volkswagen (+11.6%) and Mazda (+21.4%) are in great shape while Toyota (-0.1%) stays stable. Suzuki (+19%), Hyundai (+11.6%), Kia (+9.2%) and MG (+7.9%) also post solid scores in the remainder of the Top 10. Peugeot (+205.5%), Mitsubishi (+72.8%) and Ram (+38.7%) shine below.

Over in the models charts, the Nissan Versa (+10.8%) easily confirms it is the favourite vehicle of the Mexican crowds with 6.2% share. The Nissan Pickup (+8.7%) is back to the 2nd spot it holds year-to-date, overtaking the Chevrolet Aveo (+2.5%). The Kia K3 (+268%) celebrates one year in market at #4, distancing the VW Virtus (+46%) and Mazda CX-30 (+40.8%) both in outstanding shape. The Hyundai Creta (+50.6%) does even better and breaks its ranking record at #8, eclipsing the #9 spot it hit back in February 2022. This is the nameplate’s fourth ever incursion inside the Mexican Top 10 after reaching #10 in July 2020 and June 2023. The hero of the month is the new MG 3 up 24 spots on September to crack the Top 10 for the first time at #9.
