Germany October 2024: Peugeot (+130.1%), Toyota (+48.6%), Skoda (+28.9%) highlight positive market

Peugeot 208 sales are up 385.7% year-on-year in October.

231,992 new cars found a buyer in Germany in October, an encouraging +5.9% year-on-year uptick. We however remain -18.5% below pre-pandemic October 2019 (284,593). The year-to-date tally is still in negative, slightly, at -0.4% to 2,348,066. This is -22.3% below the same period in 2019 (3,024,751). BEV sales drop -4.9% year-on-year in October to 35,491 and 15.3% share vs. 17.1% in October 2023, and are off -26.6% year-to-date to 311,881 and 13.3% share vs. 18% last year.

Volkswagen (+26.2%) compensates for low year-ago results and lodges a splendid lift to 18.9% share, in line with the 19.1% it holds year-to-date. Mercedes (+5%) perks up to 10% share, its highest since January. In a Top 6 unchanged on last month and YTD, Skoda (+28.9%) fares best at #4 followed by Opel (+16.7%) and BMW (+4.9%) whereas Audi (-19.8%) continues to crater at #5. Toyota (+48.6%) scores another very solid performance at #6 but it’s Peugeot (+130.1%) that manages the largest gain in the Top 10 and Top 30.

The VW Golf (+38.4%) reclaims the top spot in the models charts but remains way below its YTD level at 3% share vs. 3.6% so far this year. After managing its first ever win last month, the Tiguan (+61%) drops to #2 but still surges year-on-year. The T-Roc (+29%) completes the podium, up two spots on September. The Opel Corsa (+29.6%) and Astra (+73%) round out the Top 5, both in excellent shape. Below the Skoda Octavia (+13.9%), the BMW X1 (+34.4%) advances to #7, its best ranking so far this year. The Skoda Enyaq (+28.4%) manages a third ever Top 10 finish at #9 after last month (#9) and November 2023 (#8). The Toyota Yaris/Cross (+57.1%) soars to #11, its best finish since January 2023 (#8) while the Peugeot 208 (+385.7%) skyrockets 33 ranks on September to #13, the nameplate’s highest ranking in almost 7 years: since December 2017. The VW ID.7 (+1240.9%) lodges a 2nd consecutive Top 20 finish at #19.

    1. The new 1.2 puretech engines have a chain, then they offer the 1.6 puretech also with a chain.
The Peugeot 3008 Plug-in Hybrid has a powertrain that combines a 150 hp 1.6 four-cylinder engine with a 125 hp electric motor for a total output of 195 hp and 350 Nm of torque.
The new PEUGEOT E-5008 was honoured with this year’s “Golden Steering Wheel” award from Axel Springer Verlag. The family car model impressed readers of AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG magazines as well as an expert jury.
AUTO BILD’ and ‘BILD am Sonntag’ readers and a jury of experts alike were impressed by the modern equipment and innovative technologies in the PEUGEOT E-5008. The new PEUGEOT E-5008 has an imposing SUV presence exuding robustness and safety with distinctive aerodynamic lines and a refined interior designed for optimum efficiency.

    2. Have the impression you’re ‘submerged’ in old news b/c that ‘awful’ oil belt engine is completely revised.
No denying the PureTech would bite back if not regularly maintained and fed with specific oil.

Looking at the bigger picture: it’s fair to say that should the Stellantis galaxy implode/explode such will only be after some competitors are long gone.

      1. We will see how that new mild hybrid 1.2 and it’s chain works in long term. Ford updated their 1.0 Ecoboost to use a chain but left the belt for the oil pump 😀

The best way forward will be to come to an agreement with VAG and to use their 1.5/2.0 TSI. 308 with those engines will be an awesome car.

      2. @BryanR
Well I think you are wrong about the quality of Stellantis, because very many people say that the quality of Peugeot is on the level of German premium cars..
Just see how popular and appreciated it is anywhere..

    3. “Stelantis is a joke currently, they force the awful 1.2THP engine in ALL products”

Never heard of SteLantis. In case you refer to carmanufacturer Stellantis – certainly a ‘force’ to be reckoned with – are you claiming the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Maserati Grecale, RAM 1500, Dodge Challenger, Leapmotor C10 and Alfa Stelvio are provided with a 1.2 THP? If so, a trusted source would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

  1. The “brilliant” portuguese leadership in short is cutting costs without criteria, cutting quality and regbadges.

That’s all he did at Renault, Nissan and now Stellantis. propagandists can say what they want but this is the reality.

I’m portuguese and I know that our managers and politicians are the worst in Western Europe, corruption, incompetence, fraud.

  2. Perfect software … funny .. my Astra L SportsTourer has already been to the dealer 3 times this year for a total of 4 weeks for repairs… The software does what it wants, just not what it should. Just yesterday the car software frozen at 160km/h… The Opel Astra L is definitely my last car from Stellantis…

    1. “But I don’t care, I just replied to the Stellantis love hymns..” 🙂

Conclusion: You made up an issue to bash an entire Group. Brave lad!
PS: What has DS, RAM, Leapmotor, Cherokee or Grecale to do with Opel’s sw?

  3. Pavel, Fiat is being destroyed by Carlos. Fiat has very great potential, with a small and aging range in 2023 it sold almost as much as Opel and Citroen! In relation to American brands, Jeep and RAM have enormous potential, once again wasted by Carlos. Carlos’ management is just cutting costs without criteria and sharing as much technology and rebadges as possible. Stellantis is the new GM of the 2000s.

    1. FIAT LatAm is doing well, thank you.
      Absolute and total leadership.

FIAT EU is about to lauch 4 new models, which means an all but ‘wasted’ brand, sorry.
Not a moment too soon, because Panda and 500 sales fell of cliff.

Been awhile since FIAT EU showed signs of life, but under the brilliant leadership of the Group’s Portugese CEO and FIAT’s CEO Olivier Francois the brand is buzzing. Idem Lancia & Alfa Romeo.

  4. Mayhem in Germany

    Q3 Audi:
    profit -91%, margin 0%, >2.000 lay-offs, software hickup’s, factory closure

    Q3 VW:
    margin 0%, 20.000 lay-offs, 2024 CARIAD losses $3,5 bn, 3 factory closures
Q4 sales Blitz underway (at the expense of margin?)

    Q3 BMW:
revenue -34%, profit -84%. Recalls $1,5 bn loss

Q3 Mercedes: earnings €1,2 mld, dowm from €3,4 mld, margin down to 4,3%

    Compare this with Renault-Dacia: revenue +/- identical to 2023, margin 7,5% (!)

  5. Incredibly good results.
Peogeot looks in good shape from Germany to the east. The Astra again significantly outperforms the Octavia. Opel seems to have better time aagin. In my view, if PSA + OPEL remained separate, it would be in stellar shape. Fiat Chrysler integration is very problematic. It’s not possible to adapt Jeep as a European brand. Here in the east, buying a small JEEP makes no sense. JEEP is a traditional American brand of rugged off-road vehicles. Fiat and Alfa Romeo are in a huge crisis.
I noticed great sales for RR and realy no sales for Bentley. I don’t know what’s going on.
The result of Dacia suggests strong corporate sales or the switch of privat’s to Peugeot – Citroen.

    1. As to STLA EU’s misery:

FIAT Grande Panda, Citroen C3 & C3 Aircross and Opel Frontera will help these 3 brands massively in 2025.
However, 100% perfect software seems problematic, as it is at Audi, VW, Mercedes etc.

Junior, Ypsilon, 3/5008 and Grandland need ramp-up time, but all likely will shine next year.

Remarkable sales increase at Citroen, DS, Opel en Peugeot might be related to the renewal of the SIXT rental fleet.
