Austria October 2024: Skoda signs 2nd ever win, BYD Seal up to #8

The BYD Seal breaks into the Austrian Top 10 for the first time

The Austrian new car market lifts 16.5% year-on-year in October to 21,981 registrations, meaning the year-to-date volume is now up 5.6% to 213,004. We have a momentous event in the brands top spot: Skoda surges 43% to dislodge Volkswagen (+9.5%) and rank #1 for the 2nd time in Austrian history after November 2021. It also posts its 2nd highest ever market share at 12.2% below the 13.1% it hit in pandemic-impacted April 2020. BMW (+9.1%) and Audi (+17.5%) follow ahead of Mercedes (+13.5%). Seat (+40.2%) is the only additional Top 10 member to beat the market, with Hyundai (+12.5%), Renault (+10.7%) and Toyota (+5.1%) in positive but Dacia (-10.4%) declining. BYD (+240.3%) hits a record #17 just as Peugeot (+133.4%) and Nissan (+86.6%) shine. Tesla is down -19.5% to #21.

The Skoda Octavia (+91.2%) leaps up to the pole position, and by far, at 3.8% share vs. 2.3% for the #2, the VW Golf (+39.2%). The Golf holds onto the YTD first place. The Skoda Fabia (+147.1%) repeats at #3 vs. #9 so far this year just as the Hyundai Tucson (+66.9%) storms back inside the Top 20 directly at #4. The BMW X1 (+20.7%) is down one spot on September to #5, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. The Hyundai i30 ranks #6 for the 2nd month running but this is not enough to earn it a spot in the YTD Top 20. Finally the BYD Seal (+4462.5%) breaks into the Austrian Top 10 for the first time at #8.
