Romania September 2024: Dacia Logan back in charge YTD

The Dacia Logan is back in charge of its home market.

8,975 new cars hit Romanian roads in September, a harsh -14.9% year-on-year loss. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 4.3% to 115,510. Once again local powerhouse Dacia (-33.4%) is in total freefall to 23.7% share, its lowest since March 2022 (22.6%) and compare to 29.6% year-to-date. Hyundai (+54.4%) surges ahead to 9.4% share vs. just 6.8% so far the year, distancing Toyota (+4.9%). Skoda (-31.5%) is in great difficulty at #4 just as the next three brands all lose ground: Volkswagen (-14.7%) ranks #5 ahead of Renault (-31.4%) and Ford (-9.3%). Mercedes (+15.1%) is solid at #8 while Peugeot (+154.2%) soars to #10 vs. #16 year-to-date.

Model-wise, the main event this month is the return of the Dacia Logan (+14.2%) in a clear leadership position with 11.3% share, more than double the #2, the Dacia Duster (-36.3%). This way, the Logan reclaims the YTD top spot off the Duster. The Dacia Sandero (-36.1%) also suffers but yet manages to rank #3 overall as it does YTD. The Hyundai Tucson (+92.6%) posts another impressive result at #4 ahead of the Toyota Corolla (+43.3%). The Ford Kuga (+30.6%) is up 9 spots on August to #6 while the Skoda Octavia (-44.3%) crumbles down but rallies back 6 ranks on last month to #7. Outstanding performances by the Toyota Yaris Cross (+45.3%) up 12 spots to #9 and the Peugeot 2008 (+800%) up 39 to #10.
