Iraq January-September 2024: Suzuki (+103%), Geely (+94.1%) shine, Hilux above Kia Frontier

New car sales in Iraq soar +28.4% over the first 9 months of the year to 113,633 units. Toyota (+53.7%) almost doubles the market growth rate to reach 30.6% share vs. 25.6% over the same period a year ago. Kia (+19.7%), which was #1 over the same period in 2023, drops to #2 with 25.4% share vs. 27.2% last year. Hyundai (+52.9%) brilliantly holds onto the third spot with 14.4% of the market. MG (-7.9%) underperforms but stays at #4. Suzuki (+103%) delivers the biggest gain in the Top 13 at #6. GWM (+39.3%) and Geely (+94.1%) also beat the market at #8 and #11 respectively. Nissan reappears in the charts at #12.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+56.3%) confirms it is the new favourite with a splendid 11.3% share, upsetting the 2023 #1, the Kia Frontier (+4.4%). The Hyundai Tucson (+64.5%) overtakes the Kia Sorento (+32.8%) to land in the third spot. The next five nameplates underperform, with the MG 5 (-22.8%) and Chevrolet Tahoe (-10.1%) hit the hardest. The Toyota Corolla (+16.4%) and Kia Sportage (+11.7%) still manage double-digit gains albeit below the market pace. The Toyota Corolla Cross HEV (+282.3%) surges to #10.
