Iceland September 2024: Hyundai Ioniq 5 best-seller in decimated market

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the most popular vehicle in Iceland in September.

The Icelandic new light vehicle market freefalls again in September at -50.8% year-on-year to just 559 registrations. This way, the year-to-date tally is now off -40.7% to 8,210. Toyota (-24.3%) stays in first place in the brands ranking with 14% share, distancing Hyundai (+14.8%) which defies the market with a double digit year-on-year gain. Kia (-33%) drops to #3 ahead of Tesla (-83.8%) completely imploding. Land Rover (+91.7%) lodges the best performance in the entire market while Skoda (+7.7%) and Mazda (+4%) also manage an uptick in the remainder of the Top 10.

Model-wise, this month the Hyundai Ioniq 5 scores its first win with a splendid 7.9% share. The Tesla Model 3 is up 11 spots on August to #2 ahead of the Toyota RAV4 and Tesla Model Y. The Kia Niro rounds out the Top 5, with the Ford Explorer making its first appearance inside the Top 10 at #6.
