Chile September 2024: 5 pickups in Top 5 in third straight positive market
The Ford Ranger is up 11 spots on August to #2.
It’s a third consecutive month of year-on-year gains for the Chilean new light vehicle market at +1% to 25,765 units. This reduces the year-to-date decline to -6.1% at 221,673 units. Toyota (+11.5%) vastly outpaces the market to reclaim the brands top spot it holds year-to-date with a strong 8.8% share. Leader last month, Hyundai (-8.2%) marks a pause but still manages 7.2% share, one percentage point above its YTD level where it ranks #5. Both Kia (+23.9%) and Suzuki (+21.1%) boast very solid gains but Chevrolet (-11.2%) is down three spots on August to #5. Mitsubishi (+141.1%) rallies back up to #9 with GWM (+45.9%) also in outstanding shape in the remainder of the Top 10. All in all, Chinese brands – 32 are present in Chile currently – are up 8.8% year-on-year to 28.9% share vs. 29.9% year-to-date.
Like in July the five best-selling vehicles in Chile this month are all pickup trucks. The Toyota Hilux (+24.8%) returns to the top with a still weak 2.6% share, distancing the Ford Ranger (+25.6%), Mitsubishi L200 (+243.5%), Maxus T60 (+14.7%) and last year’s leader the GWM Poer (-25.6%). The Toyota Corolla Cross (+54.3%) is up 19 spots on August to sign its first Top 10 finish since June 2023, its the Suzuki Swift (+50.8%), Kia Soluto (+49.8%) and Suzuki Baleno (+20.1%) also shining.
