Argentina September 2024: Sales up 29.3%, Peugeot 208 now #1 year-to-date

The Peugeot 208 is now #1 year-to-date in Argentina.

It’s a fantastic month for new light vehicle sales in Argentina: up 29.3% year-on-year in September to 41,018. However due to a drab first half, the year-to-date volume remains in negative territory at -11.7% to 294,550. Toyota (+43.2%) and Volkswagen (+58.7%) both beat the market to end the month atop the carmaker charts with 19.4% and 18.9% share respectively. For the Japanese brand it is markedly lower than its YTD level of 21.7% whereas for the German automaker it is significantly higher (16.3% YTD). Fiat (+2.4%) is weak at #3 ahead of a surging Peugeot (+84.9%) while Renault (-21%) and Chevrolet (-4.6%) underperform. Citroen (+115%) and Jeep (+344.3%) shoot up but the best performer remains Ram up an extravagant +5512.5% to #12.

The Toyota Hilux (+27.6%) is the most popular vehicle in the country for the 5th consecutive month at 7.8% share but it stays #3 year-to-date. The Peugeot 208 (+34.8%) remains in 2nd place with 7.5% share and ascends to the year-to-date top spot, unsettling the Fiat Cronos (-51.9%) in freefall this month. The VW Polo (+799.1%) repeats at #3 for the nameplate’s second ever podium finish, but the VW Amarok (-24.3%) and Ford Ranger (-19.9%) struggle. The Toyota Yaris (+284.6%) and Corolla Cross (+205.3%) both post fantastic gains but it’s the Peugeot 2008 (+120600%) that manages the biggest uptick near the top, breaking into the Top 10 for the first time at #10. The new Renault Kardian is up six spots on August to #13.

Previous month: Argentina August 2024: VW Polo on podium for the first time in first positive market of the year

One year ago: Argentina September 2023: Fiat Cronos, VW Amarok and Ford Ranger defy market off -3.1%
