Romania August 2024: Hyundai Tucson on podium for the first time
The Hyundai Tucson ranks #3 in Romania in August.
9,972 new cars found a Romanian buyer in August, that’s a harsh -22.6% year-on-year fall. The year-to-date remains in positive however at +6.4% to 106,535. Local behemoth Dacia freefalls -37.9% year-on-year to a shy 23.8% share vs. 30.1% so far this year. In contrast Hyundai surges 82.5% to land in 2nd place with 10.3%, its highest share since hitting 11.8% in January 2021 and highest ranking since the #2 it held in January 2022. Toyota (-4.2%) retrogrades to #3 while Volkswagen (-32.3%) and Skoda (-48.2%) both implode. Mercedes (+40.4%), Kia (+20.7%) and BMW (+1.8%) defy the falling market in the remainder of the Top 10. Newcomer MG advances to a record #14 but Tesla drops -57.2% to #15.
Model-wise, the Dacia Logan (-26.1%) is #1 for the 5th time this year, but this is still not enough to dislodge the Dacia Duster (-21.3%) from the #1 YTD spot. The Hyundai Tucson (+136.2%) shoots up to third place, the nameplate’s first incursion on the Romanian podium (previous best: #4 in May 2020 and February 2021). The Toyota Corolla (+21.5%) repeats at a record #4, followed by the Dacia Jogger (-22.6%) and Sandero (-37.8%) both in great difficulty. The next six models are in positive, with the Honda CR-V up 460%, the Hyundai i30 up 89% and the VW Polo up 65.3% the best performers.
