Chile August 2024: Hyundai #1 for 1st time in 5 years, Chevy Groove #1 for 1st time in 3 years
The China-made Chevrolet Groove is the most popular vehicle in Chile in August.
The Chilean new car market enjoys a second consecutive month in positive, although by a whisker at +0.1% to 28,335 sales. This is the biggest monthly volume of the year so far. The year-to-date tally is now down -7% to 195,908. Hyundai (+11.4%) takes the lead of the brands ranking for the first time since September 2019 with a strong 7.9% share. Chevrolet (+5.7%), Kia (+31.3%) and Suzuki (+9.1%) follow, all beating the market with solid gains. Leader year-to-date, Toyota (-26.7%) freefalls to #5 for the month. GWM (+70.7%), Changan (+37.4%) and MG (+18%) also impress below. As a whole, Chinese carmakers hold 31.7% of the Chilean market in August, their highest level so far this year to be compared with 30.1% year-to-date. No less than 30 Chinese OEMs are currently present in Chile.
Over in the models charts, the Chevrolet Groove (-9.5%) celebrates its first monthly win since September 2021 despite losing ground year-on-year. The GWM Poer (-11%) repeats at a brilliant 2nd place and becomes the most successful pickup in the country. The Hyundai Creta (+38.6%) leaps up 11 spots on July to #3 ahead of the Toyota Hilux (+4.8%), still #1 year-to-date, and the Kia Soluto (+67.8%). At #6, the Mitsubishi L200 (+147.1%) compensates for a particularly low year-ago score but drops three ranks on last month. Let’s also salute the great performances of the Hyundai Grand i10 (+56.8%), Kia Sonet (+55.6%) and Hyundai Tucson (+31.2%). The new generation pushes the Chevrolet Sail up a spectacular 3854.5%.
