Sweden July 2024: Volvo XC60 edges past Tesla Model Y
The Volvo XC60 is the most popular vehicle in Sweden in July, for just 13 sales.
16,337 new car hit Swedish roads in July, a -5.6% year-on-year decline. The year-to-date tally evolves similarly at -5.9% to 148,631. Rechargeable vehicles hold a 59.6% market share vs. 59.9% over the same month last year. EVs skid -14.9% to 5,516 units and 33.8% share vs. 37.5% in July 2023 whereas PHEVs improve 8.9% to 4,228 and 25.9% share vs. 22.4%. Whereas Volvo is traditionally weak during summer months, this is not the case this year with the local behemoth posting a fantastic +44.8% year-on-year improvement to 17.5% share. Volkswagen (-17.5%) is left far behind at 10.7% share. Mercedes (+24.4%) advances two spots on last mont tho #3 ahead of Kia (-11%) and a very dynamic Tesla (+132.9%). Skoda (+5.6%) is the only additional Top 10 member in positive. Just outside the Top 10 Polestar (+33.7%) and MG (+43.6%) impress. Notice also BYD down -90.6% to #28.
Over in the models ranking, the Volvo XC60 (+25.7%) reclaims the top spot off the Tesla Model Y (+178.8%) despite the latter posting a fantastic year-on-year lift. The XC60 this way also passes the Model Y year-to-date to snap the pole position for just 6 sales. The Volvo S/V60 (+47.4%) is also in outstanding shape and closes the podium. Below a freefalling VW ID.4 (-35.5%), the new Volvo EX30 is up one spot on June to #5, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. The Kia Sportage (+8.2%), Volvo XC40 (+31.6%) and Polestar 2 (+20.9%) all impress.
