Iceland July 2024: Sales down -34%, BYD Seal U up to #7

The Seal U helps BYD to #7 brand this month.

It’s another very difficult month for new car sales in Iceland, down a damning -34% year-on-year to just 836 units. This is a particularly poor result given July 2023 was already off -38% on the year prior. The year-to-date volume is now down -37.7% to 7,189. Toyota (-26.6%) signs its first win since last February at 15.2% share vs. 12.8% so far this year. It topples Kia (-22.6%) down to a more reasonable 13.5% of the market after hitting 20.1% last month. Skoda (+54.4%) ignores the surrounding glow and leaps up 11 spots on June to #3 overall while Nissan (+136.4%) does even better year-on-year and gains six ranks to #4. Volvo (+44.8%) and BMW (+13%) also show positive results but the best performer this month is without a doubt BYD (+485.7%) surging 16 spots on June to break into the Top 10 for the first time at #7.

Model-wise, the Toyota RAV4 takes the lead with 7.5% share vs. 3.7% so far this year, it distances the Skoda Octavia and Nissan Qashqai both up from outside the June Top 20 directly onto the July podium. The Kia Sportage drops two spots on June to #4 while the Hyundai Tucson is up four to #5. The BYD Seal U lands at a fantastic 7th place just as the BYD Atto 3 ranks #15. Other great performers include the Kia Niro at #8, the Skoda Kamiq at #11 and the Peugeot 3008 at #19.
