Switzerland June 2024: Tesla Model Y (-38.7%) still in the lead

The Tesla Model Y is the most popular vehicle in Switzerland in June despite a nasty fall.

22,689 new cars hit Swiss roads in June, a round -10% year-on-year drop. The year-to-date volume falls  a little further into negative at -2% to 121,218 units. 4×4 sales are down -9% to 11,535 and 50.8% share vs. 50.3% in June 2023. Petrol sales drop -23.3% to 6,497 and 28.6% share vs. 33.6% a year ago, diesel is off -8.3% to 2,252 and actually gains share year-on-year at 9.9% vs. 9.7%. HEVs advance 17.4% to 7,921 and 34.9% share vs. 26.8%, PHEV sink -21.7% to 1,802 and 7.9% vs. 9.1% and BEVs fall -19.3% to 4,216 and 18.6% share vs. 20.7% in June 2023.

Brand-wise, Volkswagen (-19.5%) is in freefall but recalls the top spot off BMW (+9.9%) for just 33 sales. That is enough to get back into the YTD pole position, for just 2 units. The longer term trend favours BMW as it is up 14.5% over H1 2024 vs. -10.2% for Volkswagen. Mercedes (-4.4%) and Skoda (-9.5%) manage to keep their loss below the market rate unlike Audi (-10.8%) at #5. Renault (+14.7%), Seat (+11.3%), Volvo (+4.4%) and Toyota (+3%) all deliver positive results in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Tesla (-30%) is skidding.

Over in the models charts, the Tesla Model Y (-38.7%) is the best-seller despite a dismal year-on-year drop, holding 2.6% of the market vs. 3.2% halfway through the year. The Audi Q3 (+19.3%) stays in 2nd place with 2.2% share while the Mercedes GLC (+88.7%) rounds out the podium with great energy. The Renault Clio (+161.3%) and Toyota Yaris (+67.2%) also post spectacular year-on-year lifts to close the Top 5. The Tesla Model 3 (+10.6%) is back up 31 spots on May to #9 but only ranks #27 year-to-date.
