Belgium June 2024: MG breaks volume record

MG is up to #12 in Belgium in June.

49,662 new cars hit Belgian roads in June, a -4% year-on-year loss. The H1 volume is stable at -0.4% to 263,408. Private sales account for 38.8% of total sales over the period vs. 31.2% by the end of 2023. BEVs represent 24.5% of the market. Petrol is at 42.9%, diesel at 5.4%, PHEV at 17.3% and HEV at 9.2%. 77.7% of the 64,404 BEVs registered over H1 2024 were in Flanders, where most leasing companies are located and thanks to a regional rebate for the  purchase of a vehicle below 40,000€. Company BEV sales in Flanders are up 44.7% to 42,139 and private sales up 157% to 7,264 for a total of 50,061 (+54.3%). 

Volkswagen (-19%) is back above BMW (-15.8%) but at 8.7% share it is below the 9% it commands year-to-date. Similarly, BMW falls well short of its 10.2% YTD level at 8.5%. Audi (-5.7%) and Mercedes (-17%) also fall faster than the market. Toyota (+0.8%) is stable at #5, followed by a surging Tesla (+34.1%) at #6. Citroen (+24.9%), Volvo (+12.6%) and Kia (+13.2%) also impress with double-digit gains and round out the Top 10. Below, MG (+124.8%) smashes its volume record at 1,976 and posts its 2nd highest ranking at #12 and share at 4%, below the #10 and 4.1% it hit last December. Suzuki (+90.7%), Mazda (+83.6%) and Land Rover (+24.4%) stand out further down.

In the models ranking, the BMW X1 (+65.9%) reclaims the top spot ahead of the Dacia Sandero (+38.2%) and Tesla Model Y (+30.3%). The Citroen C3 (+54.7%) climbs up to #4 while the Volvo XC40 (+7.5%) falls to #5. The VW Golf (+38.7%) advances to #8, the Audi Q4 to #9 and the Renault Clio to #13. The BMW X1 tops the Flanders and Brussels rankings as well as the PHEV charts and Fleet sales, the Dacia Sandero is #1 in Wallonia and is also the best-selling petrol car and the leader among private buyers. The VW Golf is the #1 diesel car, the Tesla Model Y #1 BEV and the Toyota Yaris #1 HEV.
