Mexico May 2024: Best May volume in 7 years, GWM lands

The GWM Ora 03 now appears in the Mexican charts.

New car sales in Mexico improve 11.5% year-on-year in May to 119,985 units. Once again this is the best May result in 7 years: since the 122,925 sales of May 2017. The year-to-date volume is now up 12.2% to 585,720. Nissan (+3.9%) is shy year-on-year but manages a market share superior to its YTD level at 17.4% vs. 17.2%. The following six brands all outpace the market: Mazda (+34.1%) is the most dynamic followed by Chevrolet (+24%), Ford (+22.6%), Toyota (+19%), Volkswagen (+16.6%) and Kia (+12.8%). Honda (+75%) delivers the largest gain in the Top 25. This month we welcome GWM at #21 for the month and #23 year-to-date.

The Nissan Versa (+12%) easily remains the most popular vehicle in the country with a strong 6.3% share. It distances the Nissan NP300 (-2.9%) and Chevrolet Aveo (+109.8%). In fact the Top 6 is identical to the YTD order. The new Kia K3 stays at #4 ahead of the Nissan March (-7.7%) and VW Virtus (+192.5%). The Mazda2 (+35.3%), Toyota Hilux (+19.6%) and Avanza (+14%) also impress. The Chevrolet S10 (#16) is the best-selling recent launch above the Kia Sonet (#22), MG 3 (#47) and Volvo EX30 (#51). The GWM Haval Jolion lands at #66, the Haval H6 at #82 and the Poer at #98.
