Colombia May 2024: Renault Duster and Kia K3 top market edging down -5.5%
The Kia K3 is up to #2 in Colombia in May.
The Colombian new vehicle market slows down its fall in May at -5.5% year-on-year to 14,828 sales, leading to a year-to-date tally off -7.5% to 70,710. Keep in mind May 2023 was down a damning -30% on the year prior. Toyota (-22%) manages an 8th consecutive monthly win with 13.3% share despite falling heavily year-on-year. However Kia (+46.8%) continues to progress and lands at #2 for the month only 35 sales below Toyota. Renault (-20.3%) and Chevrolet (-21%) are in deep trouble below. Mazda (-0.2%) is stable while Suzuki (-13.4%) disappoints. All remaining Top 10 members lodge upticks, with Hyundai (+47.5%) the most dynamic followed by Nissan (+23.7%), Volkswagen (+18.7%) and Ford (+3.8%).
Model-wise, the Renault Duster (-4.3%) takes the lead by slightly surpassing the year-on-year market growth for its first win since September 2022. The new Kia K3 climbs up five spots on last month to a record 2nd place with 3.9% of the market. This means both the Mazda CX-30 (+49%) and Chevrolet Joy (+73.4%) are knocked down one rank to #3 and #4 respectively. The Kia Picanto (-28.3%) struggles at #5 whereas the Toyota Prado (+94.1%) skyrockets up. #1 in April and year-to-date, the Toyota Corolla Cross (-59.4%) drops to #7, followed by the Toyota Hilux (-39.3%) also in difficulty. Below, notice the Kia Sonet up 121.4% and the Ford Escape at #16. The Volvo EX30 lands directly at #51 while the MG ZS is among the country’s 75 best-sellers for the first time.
