Portugal April 2024: Dacia Sandero triumphs, now #1 year-to-date
The Dacia Sandero is #1 both for the month and year-to-date.
17,329 cars hit Portuguese roads in April, a 7.6% year-on-year gain. The year-to-date tally is now up 11.8% to 76,373. Dacia (-6.6%) manages a second ever monthly win despite declining YoY, after it did so exactly a year ago in April 2023. It holds 8.6% of the market vs. 7.8% year-to-date. Mercedes (+26.1%) is up two spots on last month to #2 and 7.9% share, followed by Volkswagen (-11.9%) and BMW (+22.5%). Volvo (+104.5%), Citroen (+67.6%), Toyota (+64.5%) and Seat (+15.7%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, BYD (+1610%), MG (+215.6%), Jeep (+194.3%), Fiat (+92.4%), Tesla (+59.9%) and Skoda (+43.6%) stand out.
Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+51.4%) triumphs at 5.4% share, selling 70% more than any other model. It signs its first monthly win since last October and also accesses the YTD top spot as a result. The Renault Clio (+32.2% ) is relegated to 2nd place with 3.2% of the market The Peugeot 208 (-7.1%) is weak unlike the Citroen C3 (+89.6%), Fiat 500 (+68%) and Seat Ibiza (+26.1%). The Tesla Model 3 (+422.8%) posts a surreal gain at #10, while it ranks #4 year-to-date vs. #7 over the Full Year 2023. Very impressive also is the new Volvo EX30 up 41 spots on last month to #13. Leader in 2023, the Peugeot 2008 (-7.6%) is down to a paltry #15 this month.
