Czechia April 2024: Skoda Kodiaq up to record #2, sales up 6.1%
Skoda Kodiaq sales are up 25.5% in April. Next generation pictured.
19,546 new cars found a Czech buyer in April, a 6.1% year-on-year improvement, The year-to-date tally is therefore up 3.2% to 77,151. Skoda (-7.4%) vastly underperforms in its home market, dropping to a still ultra-dominant 32.8% share. In contrast Toyota (+52.7%) posts a stellar gain to climbs up to 2nd place overall, dislodging Hyundai (+2.1%). Volkswagen (-23.2%) endures the steepest fall in the Top 10 with Kia (-15.7%) and Ford (-13.5%) also struggling. Volvo (+165.6%) is by far the best performer among the 10 best-selling brands, with Dacia (+28.5%), BMW (+15.9%) and Mercedes (+15.7%) also doing very well.
Over in the models lane, the Skoda Octavia (-3.8%) continues to easily dominates at a round 10% share despite a small year-on-year fall. The Skoda Kodiaq (+25.5%) advances three spots on last month to #2, a new record for the nameplate, eclipsing a previous best of #3 reached five times. At 5% of the market, this is however not the Kodiaq’s largest market share, sitting below the 6.1% of November 2018 and the 5.1% of January 2023. This performance is probably due to the discounting of the outgoing generation in preparation for the 2nd opus arriving in the next few months. The Skoda Scala (+20.8%) is now up to #2 year-to-date, toppling the Skoda Fabia (-36.2%) in freefall to #8 this month. Skoda places 7 models in the Top 8 but the Kamiq (-13.1%), Karoq (-20.2%) and Superb (-22.7%) all underperform. The Hyundai i30 (+43%) is the best of the rest at #5 ahead of the Dacia Duster (+71.6%) at #9 and the Hyundai Tucson (-20%) at #10.
