India February 2024: Toyota and Tata Punch break records, all time high February volume
The Tata Punch reaches an all-time high volume in February.
After reaching an all-time monthly record in January, the Indian new wholesales car market posts a new February record at 372,178 units, up 11.3% year-on-year. Note February 2023 was already a record for the month. The year-to-date tally after two months is up 12.6% to an all time high 765,649 units. Brand leader Maruti Suzuki (+8.7%) trails the market but still manages an overwhelming 43.1% share. Tata (+19.6%) overtakes Hyundai (+6.9%) to rank #2 for the second time in the past 3 months. Mahindra (+40.3%) surges ahead as does Toyota (+52.6%), passing Kia (-17.9%) to break its monthly volume record at 23,300 units. Citroen (+28.4%), Nissan (+26.1%) and Honda (+17.4%) also beat the market below.
Over in the locally produced models aisle, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (+14.9%) regains control of the charts both for the month and year-to-date with 21 sales more than the Maruti Suzuki Baleno (-5.8%). In 2nd place, the Tata Punch (+65.1%) breaks its monthly volume record for the 2nd month running, lifting it just below 18,500 units. The DZire (-5.7%) and Vitara Brezza (-0.1%) disappoint but we have three record-breakers below: the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (+139.8%), Hyundai Creta (+46.6%) and Mahindra Scorpio (+116.6%) all reach new heights.
