Iceland February 2024: Toyota Prado leads crashing market
The Toyota Prado is the most popular vehicle in Iceland in February.
New car sales in Iceland continue to crash in February at a devastating -57.5% to just 397 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down -48.7% to 854. This fall is due to the discontinuation of the VAT discount for electric vehicles as well as the implementation of a kilometre-rate charge for all EVs. Toyota (-4.1%) limits its fall and sees its market share shoot up to 23.7% and 20.5% year-to-date. Land Rover (-11.4%) also falls much slower than the market and advances to #2 overall, distancing Kia (-63%) and Tesla (-86%). Subaru (+200%) defies the surrounding gloom and ranks #5 vs. #19 in January and over the Full Year 2023. Volvo (-47.2%) and Mercedes (-40.7%) also beat the market below. The Toyota Prado takes control of the models charts with 8.1% share for the month and 6.3% year-to-date. It is followed by the Tesla Model Y, Toyota RAV4, Kia Sorento and Dacia Duster.
