Spain November 2023: Dacia Sandero #1, Tesla Model 3 and BMW X1 break records

The BMW X1 breaks its Spanish ranking record in November.

The Spanish new car market advances 7% year-on-year in November to 78,314 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 17.3% to 867,587. Encouragingly, private sales soar 14% to 40,785 for the month with company sales up just 3.3% to 32,674 and rental sales down -16.4% to 4,855. Year-to-date, private sales are up 15.2% to 380,980, company sales up 13.2% to 357,8181 and rental sales up 39.1% to 128,789. Canarias (+24.6%), Murcia (+17.3%), Extremadura (+11.4%), Ceuta y Melilla (+10.8%), La rioja (+10.5%) and Cataluña (+10%) are the most dynamic regions, with Madrid up 4.6%.

In the brands ranking, Toyota (-13.5%) holds onto the lead despite a harsh year-on-year fall, with Kia (+0.7%) and Hyundai (+9.6%) ensuring the podium is identical to last month’s. Volkswagen (+34.9%) is up one spot on October to #4 while Dacia (+67.1%) is down one but again manages a sensational uptick, the largest in the Top 14. BMW (+18.7%) and Seat (+17.3%) also shine, Mercedes (+6.6%) matches the market but Renault (-26.5%) and Peugeot (-14.1%) both implode. Below, Tesla (+280.6%), MG (+106.9%), Skoda (+49.4%) and Nissan (+48.5%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+71.2%) lodges another fantastic year-on-year gain to repeat at #1 and cement its YTD domination. The Toyota Corolla (+40.5%) is up five spots on last month to #2, advancing to #3 year-to-date as a result. #1 twice this year, the MG ZS (+87.7%) drops to #3 but climbs to #6 year-to-date. The Hyundai Tucson (+15.6%) remains in 4th place but is stuck to #7 YTD whereas it topped the charts outright over the Full Year 2022. The Seat Ibiza (+155.6%) rallies back up 10 ranks on October to #5 as is the VW T-Roc (+78.2%) to #6. The Tesla Model 3 (+2935.2%!) smashes its ranking record to #7 vs. a previous best of #21 last August. The Nissan Qashqai (+59.5%) also shines at #9 while the BMW X1 (+95.4%) is up 14 spots on last month to #13, a new ranking record for the nameplate, eclipsing the #18 it hit back in December 2018.
