Indonesia September 2023: Toyota Kijang Innova threepeats at #1, market sinks -20.1%
The Toyota Kijang Innova is #1 in Indonesia for the third month in a row.
New vehicle wholesales in Indonesia sink -20.1% year-on-year in September to 79,883 units, its largest drop of the year. The year-to-date tally tilts into negative at -0.4% to 755,173. Retail sales fall -15.4% to 80,972 for the month but are up 1.9% year-to-date at 746,239.
In the wholesales charts, Toyota (-22.5%) falls slightly faster than the market but still holds an overwhelming 32.5% share, in sync with its YTD level. Daihatsu (-20.1%) exactly matches the market to 18.8% share, while Honda (-18.4%) and Suzuki (-15%) resist well in context. Mitsubishi (+3.2%) lodges the only year-on-year gain in the Top 10, with the next five carmakers all losing share year-on-year: Isuzu (-22%), Hino (-27.2%), Wuling (-33.3%), Mitsubishi Fuso (-36.3%) and Hyundai (-39.5%) all skid. Below, Mazda (+33%), BMW (+69.6%), FAW (+836.8%), MG (+37.5%), Lexus (+191.4%) and Mini (+36.7%) all shoot up. Retail-wise, Toyota (-14.7% ) dominates at 32.9% share above Daihatsu (-11%), Honda (-21.6%) and Suzuki (-19.7%). Mazda (+56.7%) and BMW (+47.6%) shine.
Over in the models aisle, the Toyota Kijang Innova (+19.5%) defies the negative market to threepeats at #1 with an excellent 8.1% share, but is stuck at #4 year-to-date. The Honda Brio (-8.1%) is up two spots on August to #2 while the Daihatsu Sigra (+25.2%) soars year-on-year and remains in the YTD top spot just 232 sales above the Brio. The Toyota Avanza (-42%) struggles at #4 as does the Toyota Calya (-33.9%) at #5. The Toyota Rush (-9.9%) ad Mitsubishi Xpander (-18.5%) manage to hold their loss below the market rate but are the only additional ones in the Top 10. The Honda WR-V (#14) tops recent launches ahead of the Toyota Yaris Cross (#23), Chery Omoda (#34) ad Wuling Alvez (#35).
