Argentina September 2023: Fiat Cronos, VW Amarok and Ford Ranger defy market off -3.1%

The Ford Ranger doubles its sales year-on-year in September.

New light vehicle sales in Argentina edge down -3.1% year-on-year in September to 31,389 units. The year-to-date tally remains frankly in positive at +10.9% to 333,283. Toyota (-18.1%) easily remains the most popular carmaker in the country at 17.6% share, and this despite a hefty loss. In contrast Fiat (+13%) and Volkswagen (+11.5%) both defy the negative market to round out the podium. Behind Renault (-8.1%) in difficulty, Ford (+26.3%) shines in 5th place. Nissan (+11.9%) and Chevrolet (+6.4%) also manage positive results in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Peugeot (-15.3%) and Citroen (-32.2%) sink and Mercedes (-0.5%) is stable.

The Top 4 models go completely against the market with double-digit gains: the Fiat Cronos is up 49.5% to 14.3% share vs. 11.8% year-to-date, the VW Amarok (+53.6%) reaches 9.3% share vs. 6.7% YTD and the Ford Ranger (+98.4%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year to 8.6% share vs. 5.7% so far this year. Finally the Toyota Hilux gains 14.5% to 7.9% share vs. 7% YTD. The Peugeot 208 (-9.2%) underperforms but the Renault Kangoo (+4.5%), Toyota Etios (+1.5%), VW Taos (+53.3%) – equalling its best ranking at #8, Nissan Frontier (+63.5%) and Chevrolet Tracker (+276.2%) all post very solid results.
