Chile August 2023: Mazda CX-5 surprise leader in market off -19.1%
The Mazda CX-5 is the best-selling car in Chile in August.
Difficult access to financing continues to impact new light vehicle sales in Chile in August at -19.1% year-on-year to 28,314. Encouragingly however, this is the smallest percentage drop since last March. The year-to-date volume is down -28.8% to 210,576. Passenger vehicle sales are off -36.9%, pick-up trucks down 27.3%, commercial vehicles down -31.4% and SUVs fare best at -1.9%.
In the brands aisle, Toyota (-24.8%) and Chevrolet (-38.9%) both fall faster than the market but keep the top two spots with Hyundai (+1.1%) and Peugeot (-0.2%) in tow and faring much better. Like last month, Suzuki (+31.9%) and Ford (+72%) defy the falling market and post fantastic year-on-year gains. However it’s Mazda (+169.8%) that sports the largest uptick in the Top 10. Despite excellent scores by Haval (+89%) and Jetour (+466.1%), Chinese marques drop -35.8% year-on-year to 26.7% share.
Over in the models ranking, the Mazda CX-5 is a surprise leader and holds 2.6% share vs. #11 and 1.4% year-to-date. The Chevrolet Groove aka Baojun 510 (+51.8%) remains in 2nd place ahead of the Great Wall Poer (-12.5%) up three spots on July to #3. The Ford Ranger (+534.3%) is once again boosted by the new generation and repeats at #4 while the Haval Jolion surges from #22 last month to a record #5. Down to #6, the Toyota Hilux (-31.9%) takes advantage of another mediocre month by the Mitsubishi L200 (-71.3%) to take the YTD lead.
