Switzerland June 2023: Market up 18.5%, Tesla Model Y and Skoda Octavia on top

The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling vehicle in Switzerland over H1 2023.

25,214 new cars hit Swiss roads in June, a 18.5% year-on-year improvement. The H1 2023 volume is therefore up 12.9% to 123,752. Sales of 4×4 vehicles gain 14.4% to 12,674 and 50.3% share vs. 52.1% in June 2022 and are up 14.2% year-to-date to 62,317 and 50.4% share vs. 49.8% over H1 2022. Petrol sales edge up 10.6% to 8,476 and 33.6% share vs. 36% share a year ago, diesel is down -0.8% to 2,457 and 9.7% share vs. 11.6%, HEV soars 31.5% to 6,748 and 26.8% share vs. 24.1% last year, PHEV surges 49.9% to 2,302 and 9.1% share vs. 7.2% and BEV is up 17.5% to 5,226, actually losing share at 20.7% vs. 20.9% in June 2022.

In the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+30.7%) is very solid at 10.6% share, distancing Skoda (+27.5%) also in good shape. Mercedes (+13.8%) climbs two spots on May to close the podium and grabs the third place in the year-to-date charts in the process. BMW (+10.5%) is a little weak while Audi (+22.1%) outperforms the market. We have a rare event at #6: Tesla (-29.8%) actually loses ground year-on-year and a lot of it… Volvo (+150.9%), Renault (+74.1%) and Ford (+38.2%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. 

The models podium is identical to YTD, with the Tesla Model Y (+15.8%) on top with 3.8% share ahead of the Skoda Octavia (+66.4%) at 2.2% and the Audi Q3 (+17.3%) at 1.7%. The next four models all outpace the market: the VW Golf (+27.4%) posts a rare good month at #4 vs. #12 year-to-date, the Skoda Enyaq (+53.5%) is down two spots on May to #5, the Cupra Formentor (+44.1%) is up 14 to #6 and the BMW X1 (+61.9%) up four ranks to #7. The Fiat 500 (+53.4%) is also in good shape whereas the Tesla Model 3 (-71.7%) implodes at #10 and ranks #47 year-to-date vs. #5 over the Full Year 2022.
