Portugal June 2023: Peugeot and 2008 in control

The Peugeot 2008 is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal in June and H1.

The Portuguese new car market soars 42.1% year-on-year in June to 22,041 sales, leading to a H1 2023 volume up a spending 46% to 110,155. Peugeot (+80.7%) reclaims the brands lead with 14.1% share vs. 11.7% halfway through the year while Renault (+8%) is booted to 2nd place with 8.5% of the market, consistent with its YTD level (8.6%). Dacia (-5.9%) advances to #3 despite losing ground year-on-year while Volkswagen (+105.7%) surges but drops one spot on May to #4. Mercedes (+28.4%), BMW (+33.2%) and Toyota (+39.4%) can’t keep up with the market growth whereas Citroen (+96.5%), Opel (+135%) and Seat (+101.1%) all post spectacular gains. Below, Volvo (+215.5%), Skoda (+175.9%), Audi (+118.8%) and Tesla (+87.8%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Peugeot 2008 (+60.9%) is up two spots on May to return to the first place it holds year-to-date. The Renault Clio (+306.6%) recedes to 2nd place but is up 4-fold year-on-year. It now ranks #3 year-to-date vs. #5 over the Full Year 2022. The Peugeot 208 (+70.4%) is also very dynamic at #3 ahead of a euphoric Opel Corsa (+185.1%) up 12 ranks on last month. The Dacia Sandero (-25%) struggles at #5 while the next 6 models all beat the market. The Dacia Jogger (+136.7%) is the best performer and breaks its ranking record at #6 (previous best #7 last January), the Peugeot 208 (+134.5%), Seat Ibiza (+118.5%) and Tesla Model 3 (+100.4%) more than double their sales year-on-year with the Citroen C3 Aircross (+87.8%) and Mercedes A-Class (+64.8%) also impressive.
