Portugal May 2023: Renault and Clio reclaim lead in euphoric market (+54.6%)
The Renault Clio is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal in May.
The Portuguese new car market a 54.6% year-on-year lift in May to 19,816 units, yet to tamper that enthusiasm let’s remember May 2022 was off -23.5% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally is now up 46.4% to 88,114. In the brands charts, Renault (+159.8%) triples the market gain and climbs three spots on April to #1 with 12% share vs. 8.6% YTD where it ranks #2. Peugeot (+62.1%) also outpaces the market in 2nd place and with 10.8% share, easily holding onto the YTD leadership with 11.1% of the market. In fact entire Top 5 brands for the month advance faster than the market: add Dacia (+198.9%), BMW (+93.1%) and Volkswagen (+93%). Tesla (+2377.1%!) is up 11 ranks on last month to #8 with Land Rover (+306.7%), DS (+171.4%), Skoda (+147.7%), Porsche (+112%) and Mitsubishi (+84.5%) also impressive further down.
Over in the models lane, the Renault Clio (+353.3%) surges on a weak year-ago basis to sign its first pole position since last November. Renault also places the Captur (+215.1%) at #2 ahead of the Peugeot 2008 (+152.7%), Dacia Sandero (+245.7%) and Peugeot 208 (+57%). At #6, the Tesla Model Y (+1208.6%) lodges a 5th Top 10 finish in the past 7 months while the Tesla Model 3 goes from 0 sale in May 2022 to 358 at #10. The Dacia Jogger (+526.7%) repeats at #9 with the Mercedes A-Class (+170.9%) and Nissan Qashqai (+143.2%) also very dynamic. The VW ID.5 is the best-selling recent launch at #44 above the Toyota bZ4X at #54.
