Poland May 2023: Sales up 7.3%, Cupra Formentor breaks into Top 10

First Top 10 finish for the Cupra Formentor.

The Polish new car market is up 7.3% to 37,488 sales in May, leading to a year-to-date volume up 14.1% to 192,626. Toyota (-13.2%) remains the runaway brands best-seller despite a market defying loss. In contrast, Skoda (+45%), Volkswagen (+12.3%) and Kia (+10.3%) all shine and ensure the Top 4 is identical to April. Lexus, Mazda (140.2%), Renault (+63.3%), Audi (+37%), Dacia (+27.2%), Volvo (+25.3%) and BMW (+15.1%) also outrun the market in the remainder of the Top 15 whereas Ford (-50.4%), Mercedes (-27.2%) and Hyundai (-6.6%) struggle.

Model-wise the Toyota Corolla (+19.4%) is on top again, cementing its YTD domination. The Skoda Octavia (+229.1%) follows like in April but still ranks just #4 year-to-date. Underwhelming scores for the Kia Sportage (+5.2%) and Hyundai Tucson (+1.6%) which nevertheless gain ground on last month ranking-wise. The Toyota Yaris (+40.4%) is up 6 spots on last month to #5 and now ranks #2 year-to-date, taking advantage of an off month by the Toyota Yaris Cross (#20). The Dacia Duster (+32.1%), Skoda Fabia (+23.4%) also impress but the event of the month is the Cupra Formentor (+51.7%) breaking into the Top 10 for the first time at #10.
