Ireland May 2023: Renault, Tesla highlight market up 42.7%
Renault sales are up 10-fold year-on-year in Ireland.
New car sales in Ireland rise 42.7% year-on-year in May to 7,557 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 18.2% to 74,542. Toyota (+65.9%) clearly outruns the market to return to the brands top spot at 15.3% share, cementing its YTD leadership. Volkswagen (-1.8%) can’t take advantage of the market surge and is toppled down to #2. Kia (+93.2%) ranks third above Skoda (+21.7%) and Hyundai (-5.7%) both underperforming. Renault (+1079.2%) scores a surreal uptick at #10 with Audi (+54.5%) also ahead of the market growth. Tesla (+7633.3%) is up to #13.
Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+63.4%) reclaims the top spot above the Hyundai Tucson (+55.5%), the latter holding onto the YTD #1 spot. The Kia Sportage (+96.3%), VW ID.4 (+111.3%), Toyota RAV4 (+125.8%) and Toyota Yaris (+89%) all score fantastic gains just as the Tesla Model Y goes from 0 unit sold in May 2022 to 165 this month at #7. The Skoda Octavia (+573.9%), Toyota Yaris Cross (+69.7%), Dacia Sandero and Peugeot 2008 (+907.1%) ensure the entire Top 11 beat the market (!).
