Poland April 2023: Cupra, Lexus pass milestones in shy market (+2.8%)
Cupra is among the 15 best-selling brands in Poland for the first time.
Polish new car sales edge up 2.8% year-on-year in April to 34,575 units. This is a lukewarm result given April 2022 was down -14.7% on the year prior. Reflecting a strong start of the year, the YTD tally is up 15.8% to 155,138. Toyota (-7.4%) is weak this month as it has been the case in most European markets so far. In contrast Skoda (+52.1%) and Volkswagen (+58.9%) compensate for sub-par year-ago volumes and soar to 12.4% and 8.4% share respectively vs. 10.9% and 6.7% year-to-date. Kia (+3.7%) roughly follows the market in 4th place ahead of Audi (+51.5%) also in excellent shape. Dacia (+18.8%) is the only remaining Top 10 brand in positive as Hyundai (-31.3%), BMW (-30.9%), Mercedes (-21.6%) and Volvo (-1.5%) all go backwards. Below, Lexus is back inside the Top 15 at #13 and breaks into the YTD Top 15 as a result (#15) while Cupra signs its very first Polish Top 15 finish at #15.
The Toyota Corolla (-15.7%) reclaims control of the models charts both for the month and YTD (-7.3%) despite falling year-on-year. It is followed in April by the Skoda Octavia (+157.8%) with last month’s leader the Toyota Yaris Cross (+86.7%) coming in third. The Dacia Duster (+74%) also fares very well at #4 unlike the Kia Sportage (-14.4%), Toyota C-HR (-11.2%) and Hyundai Tucson (-21.3%). The Skoda Fabia (+36.8%), VW T-Roc (+19.4%) and Skoda Superb (+23.6%) close the Top 10 in very solid fashion. Below, the Cupra Formentor (+175.1%) reaches a record 12th place, with the Skoda Karoq (+158.9%), VW Tiguan (+176.6%) and VW Golf (+96.7%) also very dynamic.
