Romania February 2023: Market up 44.5%, 5 Dacias in Top 5

The Dacia Jogger ranks 5th at home in February.

The Romanian new car market continues to shoot up in February at a whopping +44.5% year-on-year to 12,449 units. The year-to-date volume stands at 24,715, up 37.7% over the same period last year. Homegrown behemoth Dacia (+120.9%) almost triples its home market’s growth rate to reach 38.1% share. In 2nd place, Renault (+149.7%) does even better and is up 116.7% year-to-date. Skoda (+14.2%) is a lot more shy at #3 while Hyundai (-5.2%) actually sees its sales drop year-on-year at #4. In fact only BMW (+102.4%) and Kia (+51.9%) manage to beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Cupra (+160%), Tesla (+136.4%), Seat (+123.1%), Nissan (+93.5%), Mazda (+77%) and Suzuki (+73.2%) stand out.

Over in the models ranking, for the third time ever after last June and last November the Top 5 is entirely composed of Dacia nameplates. The Logan (+90.3%) remains on top at 11.6% share ahead of the Sandero (+125.5%) at 9.9% and the Duster (+100%) at 9.2%. The Spring (+235.3%) is up one spot on January to #4 and the Jogger (+7160%) celebrates one year in market at #5. The Renault Megane (+272.7%) is the best-selling foreigner at #6 above the Renault Clio (+150.5%) and Skoda Octavia (-1.1%). The Ford Kuga (+224.3%) and Hyundai i30 (+81%) round out the Top 10 in spectacular fashion.
