Kazakhstan September 2022: Chery up to record #5, market now up year-to-date

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro breaks into the Kazakh Top 10 this month.

New vehicle sales in Kazakhstan are up 14% year-on-year in September to 11,986 units, tilting the year-to-date volume into positive at +0.4% to 86,959. The Top 3 carmakers all vastly outpace the market, indicating a concentration trend towards the tried and tested brands. Chevrolet (+71.1%) manages the largest gain on the podium to hit 33.4% share vs. 28.2% so far this year. Kia (+56.3%) is the second most dynamic but equals its YTD market share at 11.1%. Hyundai (+34.9%) soars year-on-year but underperforms in terms of market share at 21.9% vs. 23.5% YTD. Newcomer Chery is up one spot on last month to reach a record 5th place with 4.7% share vs. 2.8% so far this year while sister brand Exeed is down two to #10. All other Top 10 members are in negative.

Model-wise, the Top 6 models frankly beat the market. The Chevrolet Cobalt (+61%) remains in the lead with a mammoth 20.7% share vs. 17.9% YTD, it is followed like in the YTD order by the Chevrolet Nexia (+180.2%) and Hyundai Tucson (+356.2%). The Toyota Prado (+106.3%), Hyundai Santa Fe (+490.9%) and Sonata (+144.2%) all more than double they year-to-date levels. The new Chery Tiggo Pro (#8) and Kia Ceed (#9) both break into the Kazakh Top 10 for the first time. The GAZ Gazelle (-24.3%) and Hyundai Elantra (-14.6%) are hit hard in the remainder of the Top 10.
