Sweden September 2022: Registrations back down -2.6%, Kia Niro best-seller
The Kia Niro is the best-selling vehicle in Sweden in September.
Swedish new car sales fall back into negative in September at -2.6% year-on-year to 22,048 units. The year-to-date volume is now off -11.9% to 204,640. Rechargeable cars are up 2% to hold a 55% market share vs. 53.9% a year ago. Electric cars are up 4.3% to 7,772 and 35.3% share vs. 32.9% in September 2021 while PHEV is down -8.2% to 4,363 and 19.8% share vs. 21% a year ago. In the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+7.4%) remains #1 with 12.3% share just as Volvo (+19.7%) is back from hell at #2 vs. a record-low #7 last month. Kia (-18.6%) stays in third place but was #1 in September 2021 which results in a drastic year-on-year loss. Toyota (+40.7%) scores the highest gain in the Top 10 but drops two ranks on August to #4. BMW (+31.7%), Mercedes (+29.9%) and Skoda (+26.4%) also deliver impressive gains in the remainder of the Top 10. In contrast, Tesla (-53.8%) and Ford (-30.8%) are in freefall. Cupra (+573.9%) sells almost double the amount as sister brand Seat (-64.8%).
Model-wise, the Kia Niro (-34.5%) manages its first pole position since September 2021 despite a harsh year-on-year drop. It distances the Volvo XC40 (+23.7%) still #1 year-to-date with the Toyota RAV4 (+26.9%) closing the podium. The VW ID.4 (-7.5%) is down two spots on last month to #4 just as the VW T-Roc (+172.5%) and Toyota Yaris (+161.6%) register lofty upticks. The Skoda Enyaq (+48.7%) and Volvo XC60 (+59.5%) also perform very solidly whereas the Tesla Model 3 (-36.8%) and Kia Ceed (-52.9%) stall. The Volvo C40 is up to a record #16 to top recent launches ahead of the Kia EV6 (#17), MG Marvel R (#23) and Mazda CX-60 (#32).
