Uruguay June 2022: Volkswagen #1 for first time in almost 2 years, market down -1.6%

Volkswagen is the best-selling carmaker in Uruguay in June.

The Uruguayan new light vehicle market edges down -1.6% year-on-year in June to 4,130 registrations, leading to an almost stable H1 2022 tally at -0.8% to 25,245 units. This month Volkswagen (+7.1%) jumps up three spots on May to lead the brands ranking with 14.5% share vs. 11.6% year-to-date. This is the first time since August 2020 that Volkswagen is the best-selling carmaker in Uruguay. Leader last month and year-to-date, Chevrolet (+92.5%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year due to stock shortages a year ago. Renault (-29.8%) is in difficulty as it ranked #1 in June 2021 and distances Suzuki (+48.2%) rallying back up 13 spots on May to #4 and Hyundai (+19.6%) down three ranks to #5. Toyota (+54.5%) and Citroen (+33.6%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10.
