Singapore May 2022: MG (+231.3%), BYD (+833.3%) shoot up, sales down -21.7%

MG is up 231.3% year-on-year in Singapore in May.

The Singaporean new car market continues its freefall in May at -21.7% year-on-year to 2,947 registrations, albeit a lesser fall than in April (-38.2%). The year-to-date volume now stands at 13,308 units, off -21.7% over the same period in 2021. Toyota (-18%) holds onto the top spot with an easier victory this month at 21.5% share above Mercedes (-8.2%) at 19.4%. BMW (-27.6%) and Honda (-11%) follow on each side of the market decline. Below Hyundai (-53.1%) and Mazda (-40.9%) both in serious trouble, MG (+231.3%) shoots up 22 spots on April to land at #7 with 3.6% share vs. #15 and 1.1% so far this year. Fellow Chinese fare BYD (+833.3%) is up 9-fold on a year ago and advances to #9. Nissan (-56%) and Audi (-51.7%) complete the Top 10 in paltry fashion.
