United Arab Emirates March 2022: Toyota Hilux takes the lead, registrations up 7.7%
The Toyota Hilux is the best-selling vehicle in the UAE in March.
17,570 new light vehicles hit the road in the UAE, a 7.7% year-on-year increase. Toyota (+3.3%) can’t quite match the market growth but remains by far the best-selling carmaker with 31.6% share. Nissan (-15.5%) is in difficulty in 2nd place with 17.4% of the market and is now threatened by Mitsubishi up a fantastic 181.6% to #3 and 16.2% share. All other brands are below 5% share, led by Suzuki (+35.6%) and Hyundai (+67.4%) both in outstanding shape. MG (+79%), Chevrolet (+29%), GMC (+26%) and Lexus (+18.1%) all outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10, with Kia (-1.4%) the odd one out. Further down, Genesis (+245%), Ram (+186%), Volvo (+128.6%), Isuzu (+93.2%), Hino (+71.7%), Great Wall (+60%), Fiat (+45.5%) and Haval (+40%) all impress with tremendous upticks.
Model-wise, there is a change of leadership atop the charts: the Toyota Hilux (+36.3%) frankly takes the lead with 7% share, distancing the Nissan Patrol (-24.1%) which was #1 in 2020. Three Mitsubishis follow: the Attrage (+148.6%), L200 (+291.3%) and Montero Sport (+590%). The Nissan Sunny edges up 0.3% in 6th place while the leader of the Full Year 2021, the Toyota Land Cruiser (-61.1%) freefalls to #7. The Toyota Prado (-19.7%) is also struggling whereas the Suzuki Swift Dzire (+47.6%) and Toyota Hiace (+12.3%) impress in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, the Toyota RAV4 (+166.7%), Toyota Corolla (+139.9%) and Nissan X Terra (+205.5%) stand out. The Kia Sonet (#43) is the best-selling recent launch just ahead of the MG GT (#44), Chevrolet Groove aka Baojun 510 (#46) and the Ford Bronco (#47). The Toyota Raize (#73) follows.
