Romania April 2022: Dacia Logan reclaims lead, Jogger breaks into Top 10 in market up 23.4%
The Dacia Jogger breaks into its home Top 10 in April.
New car sales in Romania continue on their outstanding run in 2022, with April volumes up another 23.4% year-on-year to 8,469 units. This leads to a year-to-date tally up 35.6% to 37,447. Homegrown leader Dacia (+37.8%) outpaces the market on its way to 26.3% share vs. 25.7% so far this year. Toyota (+29.6%) and Hyundai (+61.8%) both overtake Ford (+36.7%) to rank #2 and #3 respectively. In contrast, Skoda (-13.1%) and Volkswagen (-4.4%) can’t catch onto the euphoric market. Jeep (+396.5%) and Peugeot (+99%) score the largest gains in the Top 10 – and Top 15. Below, notice Tesla (+10700%), Cupra (+320%), DS (+166.7%), Ssangyong (+144.4%), Seat (+89.5%), Alfa Romeo (+88.9%) and Mazda (+59.2%) all posting fantastic YoY gains.
Model-wise, after being toppled by both the Dacia Duster and Spring last month, the Dacia Logan (+17.4%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date with 9.2% of its home market. The Dacia Duster (+11.4%) is down to #2 and the Spring down to #3. Even though the Dacia Sandero (-53.6%) is down to an unusual #6, there are now 4 Dacia’s in the YTD Top 4, a record. The locally-built Ford Puma (+81%) remains the best of the rest at #4 ahead of the Toyota Corolla (+62.7%). The Jeep Renegade (+8450%) delivers a surreal gain which can only be due to a batch of rental cars or fleet purchases. We have a newcomer in the Top 10: the new Dacia Jogger up to #9 for its third month in market.
