Brazil April 2022: Market down -16.8%, first Top 5 finish for the Fiat Pulse
The Fiat Pulse breaks into the Brazilian Top 5 for the first time in April.
New vehicle sales in Brazil drop -16.8% year-on-year in April to 136,341 units, in actual fact the smallest decline of the year so far. The year-to-date tally now stands at 510,846 sales, off -22.8% or over 150,000 units on the first four months of 2021. Fiat (-5.6%) improves its share to 25.2%, its highest since last July (26.9%) and to be compared with 15% at home in Italy. It distances Chevrolet (+1.6%) going against the market with a small uptick. Toyota (+21.6%) once again shines and at 12% lodges its second highest market share below last month’s 12.6%. Hyundai (-4.3%) and Jeep (-10.8%) round out the Top 5, with the latter overtaking Volkswagen (-65.6%) in complete freefall. The next three manufacturers fall faster than the market: Renault (-25.6%), Honda (-28.3%) and Nissan (-38.1%) would rather forget this month. In contrast Chery (+27.3%) once again scores the biggest year-on-year improvement in the Top 10 at #10. Kia (+25.8%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10.
Model-wise, the Fiat Strada (-36.5%) easily holds onto the top spot with 5.9% share, in line with the 5.8% it holds year-to-date. The Hyundai HB20 (-5.1%) limits its fall to rank #2 as it does YTD while the Fiat Mobi (-13.8%) remains in third place and ranks #5 so far this year. The Chevrolet Onix (-12.9%) can’t quite return to its past glory and is stuck at #4, albeit up from #5 in March. For its part the new Fiat Pulse is up 10 spots on March to crack the Brazilian Top 5 for the first time at #5. The Fiat Argo (+2%) up 12 ranks to #6, Chevrolet Onix Plus (+7%) and VW T-Cross (+5.7%) also manage year-on-year gains in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, the Fiat Cronos (+414.9%), Honda City (+319.6%), Toyota Corolla Cross (+104.4%), Hyundai HB20S (+85.5%), Chevrolet S10 (+37.7%) and Toyota Hilux (+20.6%) impress with fantastic year-on-year gains. Below the Pulse, the best-selling recent launches are the Jeep Commander (#25), Honda City Hatch (#26) and Chery Tiggo 3X (#45).
